Ossabaw Island’s

Visiting Artist Program

For nearly half a century, amateur and professional photographers, painters, sculptors,

ceramists and textile artisans have been drawn to Ossabaw Island. Their works can be

found in museums, galleries and private homes around the world. The Ossabaw Island

Foundation is committed to preserving this tradition by encouraging artists to visit the

island, immerse in its tranquility and produce art inspired by Ossabaw.

Every October, hundreds of people from all over the country converge on the island to

attend to The Ossabaw Island Foundation’s Annual Fall Pig Roast and Silent Art Auction.

The lavish picnic and art auction are held on the grounds of the grand Torrey-West Estate.

The funds generated from this event help the Foundation continue to inspire, promote and

manage exceptional educational, cultural and scientific programs that are designed to

maximize the experience of Ossabaw Island while minimizing the impact on its resources.

The historic Clubhouse, an 1880’s prefabricated hunting lodge offers comfortable

dormitory-style accommodations. During the summer and winter months (June through

August and December through February), on a space available basis, the day use fee and

nightly Clubhouse room fee is waived to artists in exchange for a donation of a finished

piece of art to the annual Silent Auction. Any artist that chooses to donate a piece of

finished art to the annual Silent Auction is given one complimentary ticket to the Pig Roast.

As with all visitors to Ossabaw Island, artists arrange their own round trip boat

transportation. They also provide all their food /beverages (there are no stores on

Ossabaw), prepare their own meals and take their trash off of the island when they depart.

Bed linens, blankets, bath towels and pillows are provided. The foundation’s On-Island

Coordinator is available to provide logistical support and shuttle service around the island.

Vehicles may be rented based on availability.
